The Tide That Raised Me is built around the landscape that shaped me. I grew up between tides on Deer Island. The Bay of Fundy wasn’t scenery. It was a force. It taught rhythm, patience, and how to stand steady when everything moves around you.
This gown takes that lesson and turns it into structure. The opening and closing overskirt reflects the push and pull of the tide. The ruffles trace the water’s movement. The pearls mark the foam that gathers and disappears. Each piece is placed with intention, not decoration.
I designed this work as a return to where my creativity began. The Bay is in the architecture of the dress, not just its story. Every fold, curve, and shift comes from memory and muscle. The construction process became its own tide cycle. Build. Adjust. Release. Rise.
This piece is a reminder of what shaped me and what still does. It is both a tribute and a grounding point. The ocean raised me. This gown carries that truth plainly.
